The Ludlow Police Department in Hampden County received a call on Tuesday, Sept. 21 for a woman creating a traffic jam in the middle of the roadway at the intersection of Holyoke Street and Kendall Street.

Police said that upon arrival, officers located a Toyota Prius parked on the corner that was obstructing the westbound lane of Holyoke Street, creating a traffic jam.

Near the vehicle, police found Chicopee resident Naomi Tetherly, age 46, standing in the roadway while wearing a hazmat bio-hazard suit and a full-face gas mask.

According to police, despite commands from officers, Tetherly allegedly entered the Prius and drove away, ignoring their attempts to pull her over or stop the vehicle.

Police said that the pursuit began westbound on Holyoke Street, then onto Burnett Road in Chicopee, and then onto I-291, at which point Massachusetts State Police troopers intervened and were able to stop her with spike strips.

It is further alleged that Tetherly continued to be non-compliant with police and had to be escorted out of her vehicle by responding officers.

Tetherly was charged with:

  • Disturbing the peace;
  • Failure to stop for police;
  • Negligent operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Disorderly conduct.
